Chicago Vin Earnshaw: Press

Jerry Nolan  My Life As A Doll

11.04.96 Gyrate to the Joyrates By ANDY SMITH Journal-Bulletin Pop Music Writer The band: The Joyrates Who they are: Mike LaBelle, drums; Vinnie Earnshaw, guitar/vocals; Jerry Miller, guitar; Robert Clinton, bass What they play: "It's basic American rock 'n' roll," says Earnshaw. Earnshaw contributes passionate, gritty vocals and Jerry Miller is one of the tastiest guitar players anywhere. Check out his work on She's Gonna Ride. Name game: "I was fooling around with words and it sorta came to me for some reason," Earnshaw said. "It's a play on gyrate and having fun." Catch them when you can: Everyone in the Joyrates also plays in other bands. Earnshaw and LaBelle put the roll in Dave Howard & the High Rollers, Clinton plays with Stovall Brown, and Miller mans the six-string for J. Geils and Magic Dick in their band, Bluestime. "It's real hard to get everyone together," said Earnshaw. "I have to cancel more gigs than I play." Recordings: The Joyrates have a cassette out, Face East

7.08.96 High Rollers play blues-influenced roots rock By ANDY SMITH Journal-Bulletin Pop Music Writer The Band: Dave Howard & the High Rollers, from Providence Who They Are: From left, Mike LaBelle, drums, "Chicago" Vin Earnshaw, bass, Dave Howard, harmonica and vocals, Tom Ferraro, guitar. (Earnshaw and LaBelle are also in a fine band called the Joyrates, with the incomparable Jerry Miller on guitar.) What They Play: "I guess you'd call it blues-flavored roots rock," said Howard. Howard lists such great Chicago blues harpists as Little Walter and James Cotton as influences. He also cites Los Angeles roots-rockers The Blasters, plus Roomful of Blues, the Fabulous Thunderbirds and all their farflung alumni. Recordings: None with the current lineup, although Howard said the band is working on a new album.

Jack Smith and the Rockabilly Planet are one of my favorite “unknown” bands in America. Jack is a great singer, their songs are good, and the guitar player, Jerry Miller, is the best new Rockabilly guitarist I’ve heard. They are one of the brave bands who struggle on without riches and recognition, yet, and I wish them all the best. “Keep Rockin”

"The rythym section is key to the over all sound with the great time keeping of drummer Mike la belle and the solide bottom provided by Vin Earnshaw."
